FJU TALENTS – 10 Years of Taiwanese Design at London Fashion Week

Ten years is a significant threshold for any platform dedicated to emerging talent, and FJU Talents arrived at its anniversary edition with plenty to show for the past decade

Since its first London Fashion Week presentation, the FJU Talents showcase has introduced Taiwanese designers to the world with a consistency that has led to international acclaim.

This year’s edition achieved two things at once: presenting four new voices, and a retrospective of designers who have continued to shape the industry.

The up-and-coming designers cover a remarkable amount of conceptual ground between them.

Min-Hsin Yu works in hand crochet and ribbon yarns, building layered textile surfaces from the contrasting light of Earth and Mars sunsets, warm orange-reds bleeding into deep blues. The premise sounds abstract but the craft is immediate: these are textiles that hold colour the way landscape holds light, in constant, gradual transformation.

Yui Kao takes a sharply different approach with Impulse Lover, a genderless collection that frames desire itself as a kind of product design. Taiwanese snack packaging, heart-shaped charms and vivid red tulle sit alongside cord corsets and oversized silhouettes in a collection that is funny, provocative and genuinely inclusive in its queer aesthetic.

The return of Alison Lai, having first shown in 2019 and since founded her label (She)nanigans, brings the most formally rigorous work of the four. Her latest collection draws on David Lynch’s Twin Peaks to examine patriarchal structures and the male gaze, working through deconstructed tailoring, distorted black-and-white stripes and flashes of vivid red to create a tension between social constraint and female desire. The Lynch reference earns its place: this is work that understands how domestic spaces can hold menace, and how femininity is always being watched.

Ting Hsuan Chang closes the new designer lineup with Cochlea, a collection that uses parasitised snails as its entry point into questions of faith, collective belief and individual consciousness. Elaborate ritualistic silhouettes and inverse-rib knits producing distorted optical textures make this the most formally experimental collection of the four, and among the most compelling.

FJU Talents has never been a single aesthetic. That is its strength. What connects the platform’s decade of designers is not a house style but a willingness to use fashion as a means of thinking through something genuinely difficult: identity, desire, belief, the body, memory, resistance.

This ambition remains intact in the 2026 edition.
