New York designer Asli Polat presented a new direction in her Spring/Summer 2015 collection for London Fashion Week.

Her SS15 collection has been branded as a new take on sports-luxe. Tailoring designed for the athletic woman, the designs were a mix of technical fabric and modernised silhouettes that still managed to keep the soft, city feel.

On paper, you would question how this would work as a collection due to the contrast in materials and clothing items, but somehow it works perfectly.

The collection included oversized dungarees, silk dresses, boxer shorts and shell-tops, all sticking to a feminine colour palette of nudes, off-whites, light blues and pale pinks. A number of textures were explored throughout the collection including metallic leather, PVC and lace, to mention a few, all of which played a huge part in the impact of each item.

Certain areas took obvious inspiration from the Alexander Wang SS14 collection, such as the mesh detailing and the striped shirt dress.

Asli began her journey into design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. Her graduate collection impressed the likes of Alexander Wang and Denis Basso, which saw her designs exhibited in the ‘FIT Finals Show’.

With a focus on premium tailoring, Asli began designing for high-end brands where she quickly became the name on everyone’s lips due to her unique style.

In 2013, Asli began her solo career by releasing a capsule collection for Autumn/Winter under her own label. With a hope to launch in the UK, Asli secured a spot at the off-schedule London Fashion Week show on Saturday 13th September 2014.

The setting for the SS15 show was the ME London Hotel which gave guests a gorgeous view of the city. With white flowers lining the bar and marble flooring for a catwalk, the room mirrored the crisp, clean-cut collection. The models hair and makeup also reflected the brand with almost bare faces and scraped back hair.

This collection combines sleek, sharp cuts with a playful and fun vibe and definitely keeps you wondering what she’ll do next.
