Claims Iran asked Taliban “kill list” to hunt down MI6 spies
Right-leaning publications have picked up a story that Iran urged the Taliban to reveal a “kill list” in order to hunt down MI6 spies. It comes after a MoD database breach led to a leak of details of up to 100,000 Afghan asylum seekers.
Tehran is reportedly seeking to review the cases of around 25,000 Afghan nationals who were employed alongside British forces during the UK’s military involvement in Afghanistan throughout the 2000s and early 2010s.
The Taliban has already suggested that it has a list of Afghans who supported British forces during the U.S.-led military campaign between 2004 and 2014.
According to The Daily Telegraph, a senior Iranian official confirmed that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) formally requested that the Taliban pass over the list as scrambles to gain leverage over the West ahead of nuclear negotiations this autumn.
