Tourists dismayed to discover Leicester Square is not a square

Tourists flocking to Leicester Square have found themselves in a state of utter perplexity.

The centre of London’s streets have been filled with flabbergasted visitors staring incredulously at shapes that, they try to confirm with one another, are definitely not squares.

Expecting to find a conventional square with straight sides and corners, tourists have been taken aback when they found themselves inside a delightful circle adorned with theaters, cinemas, and vibrant street performers.

As they walked around the circular plaza, some tourists resorted to creative ways of convincing themselves that they were indeed standing in a square.

“We tried just walking in a square instead – perhaps that’s what visitors are supposed to do,” mused one confused tourist attempting to fathom squareness within their newly discovered rounded reality.

And the disappointment continues. Historians have pointed out that Leicester Square was never home to any Leicesters. No castles or knights are anywhere to be found.

Local guides have been cashing in, offering tongue-in-cheek tours where they regale visitors with tales of the famous “square” and how it became a circle, while souvenir shops have begun printing “I Survived Leicester Square” T-shirts, featuring a not-so-square design, to ease the trauma and disappointment.

Leicester Square tube station has since considered posting a sign at their entrance and exits, warning visitors about the shape-shock to help quell disappointment.

One visitor has already taken matters into their own hands, however, posting a one star review on trip advisor, titled, “Warning”, which simply stated: “it is not a square.”
