The Sony World Photography Awards exhibition will return to Somerset House, bringing together more than 300 images that offer a sweeping view of contemporary photography. Spread across the venue’s West and East Wings, the annual show presents work from both emerging and established artists, reflecting the breadth of themes and styles shaping the medium today.

The exhibition highlights winning and shortlisted entries from the Sony World Photography Awards, widely regarded as one of the industry’s most prominent competitions. The selection spans documentary, portraiture, landscape and experimental work, capturing moments from across the world over the past year.

A central feature of this year’s exhibition is an immersive presentation of work by Joel Meyerowitz. Known for his pioneering use of colour in street photography, Meyerowitz’s images are displayed alongside video and sound elements, creating a multi-sensory experience that recontextualises his photographs of urban life in Europe and beyond.

Alongside this, Zed Nelson, named Photographer of the Year, presents The Anthropocene Illusion, a series examining the relationship between humans and the natural world. The project explores how environments are increasingly shaped, controlled and mediated, raising questions about authenticity and the modern experience of nature.

The exhibition aims to provide insight into the issues and visual narratives that have defined the past year, from global events to personal stories. Its curatorial approach places award-winning images alongside those of rising talents, offering visitors a comprehensive snapshot of photography’s evolving landscape.

Visitors can also attend an accompanying artist talk featuring Meyerowitz, moderated by John Wilson, at Logan Hall. The event offers an opportunity to hear directly from one of photography’s most influential figures, adding further depth to a renowned exhibition.
