Introducing our BOTW: oOoOO
While Without Your Love, the debut full-length from San Francisco’s Christopher Dexter Greenspan under the alias of oOoOO, may not feel a million miles away from the witch house movement that initially brought the producer to wider attention in 2009/10, it certainly feels like a step in a new direction. Where Greenspan was once creating screwed, choppy remixes of Lady Gaga and creaky, sleepwalker beats, his first album as oOoOO instead pursues more creatively fertile pastures, from wonky southern hip-hop (albeit instrumentally) through to passages of greater ambiance and contemplation.
Below, you can check out the second half of Without Your Love‘s opening dyad, ‘Sirens//Stay Here‘, a concoction of off-kilter, street corner percussion, synth-formed whale calls and distant sopranos that recall the spectres of evening singers on long-sunk leisure cruises. It’s an enticing, curiosity-peaking prelude to Without Your Love‘s dense, mysterious body; one that you’ll want to explore in depth ahead of its full release on June 24.
