Introducing: Laura Welsh

Tumblr. Where hipsters go to show off other people’s monochrome pictures of naked women. Often this is a shallow, annoying ploy for individuality (an irony in itself, but that’s for another day) but, in the case of some musicians, it can be an interesting side-note to their music. The obvious examples here would be shock-rap troubadours Odd Future and druggy, dubby R’n’B singer The Weeknd. Laura Welsh is something completely different.

Laura Welsh is a singer/songwriter from Staffordshire working in London (apparently), and her voice sits somewhere between Adele (apologies) and Malin from Niki and the Dove. Basically, she has a huge voice and cracking songs to boot. Not a bad combo in our book.

The video for her latest track, ‘Call To Arms’, debuted on her Tumblr, a large part of her miniscule web presence, earlier this month, and it’s a cracker. Check it out below.
