Introducing: Funeral Suits

Funeral Suits may not be the cheeriest band name you’ve ever heard (it’s not exactly Yeah Yeah Yeahs is it?), but they’re not quite the morose introverts their name suggests.

The four piece band from Ireland make the kind of music White Lies or Editors would make if they went outside in the daytime. Bathed in breezy synths and distorted guitars, Funeral Suits are a very nice band to listen to – their Facebook page even says that they’re interests are “sugar and spice and all things nice”. But that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Underneath the layers of keyboard and distortion is the dark lyricism of a band like My Chemical Romance. On track All These Happy People, vocalist Brian James mumbles the line “you said in time the pain will pass/it’s like end is here at last” while the music continues in the joyous manner it did before. It’s a lovely moment; one of many that litter the band’s output to date.

With their debut album, ‘Lily of the Valley’, produced by Blur and The Smiths producer Stephen Street, scheduled for release on June 4th and a string of dates across Ireland just after, Funeral Suits are set for their biggest summer yet.

We can hardly wait.
