Starmer: UK will need a ‘decade’ to rebuild Britain
Ahead of his first major address on Tuesday, Sir Kier Starmer is expected to address the “hard work” required to bring about lasting change in the UK.
During the election campaign he said it would take a “decade of national renewal” to get the country back on its feet.
According to the Times, Starmer will use the speech to address the hard decisions, such as tax rises, that are required to recover from the “rubble and ruin” left by the Conservative government.
Right-wing papers adopted the angle of 10 years being far too long to wait to see the country improve, blaming Starmer’s approach; left-wing outlets instead approached the long road ahead as a consequence of a disastrous Tory government.
