Prince Andrew to lose title and move out of Royal Lodge
King Charles III has formally withdrawn Prince Andrew’s remaining royal titles and instructed him to vacate Royal Lodge, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday.
The decision follows renewed public scrutiny after the release of Virginia Giuffre’s memoir last week, which reignited attention on the Duke of York’s past association with Jeffrey Epstein and prompted calls for further accountability.
According to the palace statement, the action includes the removal of certain honours and the change of Prince Andrew’s formal style to “Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.” Official notice has also been issued for him to surrender the lease on Royal Lodge, his long-term residence in Windsor Great Park. He is expected to relocate to Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
Giuffre’s family welcomed the development. Sky Roberts, a relative, described it as “a moment of justice” and commended Giuffre’s persistence. The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, and the couple’s daughters are also expected to leave Royal Lodge as part of the transition.
The move marks one of the most significant royal disciplinary actions in recent history, drawing comparisons to the 1919 decision to revoke Prince Ernest Augustus’s British titles. It follows earlier allegations against Prince Andrew in 2019, his 2022 out-of-court settlement with Giuffre, and ongoing attention from both UK parliamentary committees and US legal authorities.
