Migrant “one in, one out” flight stalled by High Court

Sir Kier Starmer’s deportation deal with France continues to face complications as a 25-year0old Eritrean man successfully won the prevention of his removal in the High Court on Tuesday.

The Home Office is appealing the decision, and continues to stand behind plans to have migrants on flights in the coming days to get the deal underway.

On Wednesday, Britain pledged to fight what it described as “vexatious, last minute claims” that have been used to delay or block the deportation of migrants.

In a statement, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said, “I will fight to end vexatious, last-minute claims. I will robustly defend the British public’s priorities in any court. And I will do whatever it takes to secure our border.”

Mahmood is said to be reviewing the Modern Slavery Act to determine which loopholes may be exploited by those who have been singled out for deportation.
