Liz Truss becomes UK’s new prime minister
Liz Truss has succeeded Boris Johnson as leader of the Conservative party after winning the most votes from Conservative party members.
In the run-up to the vote, she was widely regarded as the favoured candidate, and it seemed an inevitable result. Truss immediately set to a Cabinet reshuffle, and vowed to take immediate action to tackle the energy crisis. While the media generally rallied behind Truss overall as the most likely to win, division over her leadership was similarly immediate following her succession.
