Brexit’s 5th Anniversary reignites debate over Starmer’s capabilities

The Conservatives have accused Labour of attempting to “dismantle Brexit and pull the UK back into the EU’s influence.”

Sir Keir Starmer advocated for a second Brexit referendum while serving as Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow minister for exiting the European Union.

Although this pledge appeared in Labour’s manifesto, it was abandoned when Sir Keir became party leader.

On Monday, the Prime Minister will travel to Brussels to meet with EU leaders and discuss European security, further reflecting Labour’s aim to “reset” relations with the bloc.

In August, he emphasized that his approach was not about “reversing Brexit” but fostering a “closer relationship on multiple fronts,” including defence and the economy.

Ahead of the 5 year anniversary on January 31, debate around Starmer’s approach to Brexit has resurfaced once again.
