Braverman’s political future in question
Friday papers were dominated by questions about the political future of Home Secretary Suella Braverman, after she wrote an article accusing the Metropolitan Police of bias over its handling of left and right-wing protests.
It leads with accusations that Met police display bias over protests, saying, “There is a perception that senior officers play favourites when it comes to protesters” – namely, in favour of the left.
Downing Street says it did not agree to the contents of the article, and that it had not been cleared internally for publication – a requirement under the ministerial code.
A spokesperson for the PM said, “The content was not agreed by No 10. We are looking into what happened in this instance around the op-ed. We will update if appropriate.”
