The Divine Theatre of Seyni Awa Camara

Seyni Awa Camara is an African sculptor, whose mystical healing figures speak of motherhood, magic and the forest spirits.
Now open at The Gallery of Everything in London, a selection of historic and contemporary sculptures mark her first solo exhibition in the UK.

Born into a family of artisans, Camara was introduced to clay by her mother and soon developed a practice populated by humanoid figures and guided by the divine.
Even as a child, her approach to the material was individuated, and strongly guided by a connection to the divine. Although she originally concealed this figurative practice, her activities became known locally; and, with the support of anthropologist Michèle Odeyé-Finzi, brought her to the attention of a wider audience. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to witness her works up close.
