Toronto-based artist Amanda McCavour has created a breathtaking floating installation at the Chazen Museum of Art in Wisconsin.

Working with embroidery, McCavour’s work creates the illusion of a threadlike drawing, delicately stitched into fabric that dissolves in water, leaving the threads suspended without a canvas. Each monumental installation has an assumed vulnerability, but the threads possess an unexpected strength that counters the appearance of fragility.

Ode to the Prairie comprises over 450 individually embroidered plants, the largest of which are suspended from the coffered ceiling of the Paige Court to create an ephemeral dreamscape.
