Review: TQD – there for you
TQD, aka Royal T, DJ Q and Flava D, bring together their versatility and trademarks in there for you, a thumping collection of UK garage at its most nostalgic.
For some, garage and its many genre-connected-cousins are grouped together and looked back on fondly as the bass-music of a bygone era. But this debut album is here to smash right back into your life like a wrecking ball, and remind you why the genre(s) will forever have a place in your heart.
Title track break it down kicks things off with characteristic vocal harmonies and choppy, repetitive catchphrases a la old skool garage, while on the ground unlocks a millennial wubbing that is an immediate release of serotonin.
You and i is the real deal – warbling, harmonies, minor key builds, and a cheeky bass drop, while too sweet pays its respects to the soulful house before dropping right back down to a broken bouncy bass.
It might not do anything ground-breaking and different, but it definitely taps into sounds long forgotten with a playful versatility that can’t help but inspire enjoyment.
