Review: SPF 50 – Social Life
Dark but meditative, SPF 50 manages to slam without causing casualties. Basslines are pressurised and explosive, while synth melodies float and froth into the atmosphere.
At once intricate and introspective, each layer is carefully crafted to created a balanced experience. Opener Body Concept manages to capture the aesthetic of the entire EP, with delicate synths and a thumping bass. Liquid USB follows – choppier, insistent, but built upon ethereal mystery, while Grove Map gradually builds tension from relaxed pulses to mysterious chords of urgency that fade into ghostlike whispers.
This is a release filled with feeling, with the listening experience very much kept in mind. And whatever your listening needs, it fulfils needs and exceeds expectation.
