Moodboard: Sylvan Esso
Like the slinky, penicillin and the microwave, some of the greatest things have been discovered by accident. Sometimes the world has a way of amalgamating stuff that just comes together. Sylvan Esso, much like these loved inventions, came about entirely by chance.
Comprised of Amelia Meath (Mountain Man) and Nick Sanborn (Megafaun, Made of Oak), the pair first made contact when they shared the bill at a small club. Meath had just written a song, ‘Play It Right’ and was on the look out for someone to rework the track for a remix.
This happy meeting was to be the first of many, as the pair realised that there was something special between them, something that needed to be explored. Taking up camp in Durham, N.C., Sylvan Esso was formed, and both Meath and Sanborn got to work on their album. Over the course of the year the duo had created a self-titled debut that explores shades of light and dark with a pop twinge. Their latest single, ‘Coffee’, sees Meath’s sweet vocals expertly synched yet juxtaposed with Sanborn’s production. We got the pair to create a moodboard that explores their loves and inspirations…
