Introducing: Strange Names
Some of the world’s greatest packages come in two’s – Ben and Jerry’s, Ant and Dec, Posh and Becks. When it comes to the world of music, doubling up and putting both your creative minds together is inevitably going to lead to more success than going it alone – so when we were introduced to Strange Names, and started listening to their upcoming EP, we got very excited.
Comprised of New York born Liam Benzi and Francis Jiminez – Stange Names are a dynamic duo who are set to release their self titled debut EP at the end of this month. The two met while in University in 2010, and have been playing shows together since mid 2012. Their tone is a joyous blend of electro-pop grooves with a retro finish. ‘Potential Wife’ is an outstanding mix of pop beats, and catchy keyboard riffs, all layered over harmonious vocals and instrumental solos. ‘Strange Revelation’ is a calmer mix of elongated distorted guitars, and echoing vocals – all creating an atmospheric blend and a pleasant contrast from ‘Luxury Child’ – once again an upbeat pop creation, with Max Martin-esque guitar strums and synths. Strange Names is set to drop on 30th September, and Prime Planet is very excited about these guys, as they are most certainly a band to keep an eye on in the coming months.
