Introducing: Moscow Youth Cult

Moscow Youth Cult is one of the few bands where even though the group hail from Nottingham, the name actually makes sense.  They have the pop-y jump step of youth, that sounds a bit like Bloc Party, but with an added dark cloud, much like a Russian winter, reminiscent of a Aphex Twin sound, and with tracks like ‘Sakura Sakura’ that has a sort of repetition-like-chant to it, that cult feelings simply slides into place. And the three sounds are able to blend perfectly together to make for some ambient electro-pop tunes.

The groups members are Jon Dix on guitar, synths, vocals, programming, and production; and Dan O’Donnell-Smith keyboards and programming; with guest appearances of Leah Donovan on vocals, and if you haven’t already guessed from the members names, the duo is a shoot off from another indie favourite in Nottingham, Love Ends Disaster! (currently working on their second album.) The pair, however, bring a synth heavy sound, making them more electro-pop than the alt-rock of LED. The group have just been signed to LoAF, and they have a their EP Hive Glow up for download on their soundcloud.

Besides their amazing tracks that beg to be played again and again, their live shows are unique and an experience all on their own, as they project video from old si-fi and horror films on a low-fi looking old television, to add that extra eerie to the already trancey sound.

Best of all you can catch this interesting act this Thursday, 16th June at The Lock Tavern in Camden! Something truly not to miss! For more info on the gig you can look here.
