Introducing: :Kinema:
Kinema, or :Kinema:, with the insisted inclusion of the colons, are an electro disco pop trio from Brighton who formed in 2009, and are set to bring their buoyant brand of ‘Dancefloor Romance’, as well as grammatical disorder, to our public consciousnesses.
Consisting of Dominic Ashton (vocals), Andy Nelson (guitar), and Ross Flight (keytar, synth), :Kinema: craft nostalgic nuggets of sleek, infectious electro pop that will inevitably induce jovial jiving, en masse. Produced directly from the amateur confines of their bedroom in Brighton, these seaside soul-lads create meticulously honed songs of clarity and understated ebullience, that evoke the sound of another era – whether it be the highly polished sound of early-80’s yacht-rock or the crisp production qualities of 90’s American R’n’B – the influences are diverse and tangible.
Lead single, My Beautiful Machines, is an infectious ditty of retro-electro-funk that instantly echoes similarities between Montrealers Chromeo and Parisian pop-outfit Phoenix. A delightful shudder of effervescent synths and a light, breezy vocal will inevitably fulfill the band’s desire to make people dance and feel happy. The next two tracks, Heartstrings and I Love Your Beam, are joyous slices of sentimental synth-pop that would not look out of place, if it was being introduced by Steve Wright on Top of the Pops back in 1983.
If these words have fueled your desire to hear more, make sure you get your hands on My Beautiful Machines, when it released on February 14th, via Hot Pockets.
