Introducing: Elli Ingram
After wracking up over 300,000 views within a month for her cover of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Poetic Justice’ on YouTube – which in my opinion is far less exposure than what it deserves – the Brightonian songstress has released a 5 track EP fortunately named ‘Sober’. A comparison that I’m sure Ellie Ingram will encounter a million times over is her seemingly blasà Frank-era Amy Winehouse twang. This also seeps into the production of her jazzy, brass and woodwind-sodden tunes. Her voice has the tone and easy-going feel of neo-soul star Erykah Badu, with just a hint of Adele attitude. All this merged together creates music you’d not even think about having sex to, but music you’d make sweet sweet loving to – a curse first sworn upon iconic how-low-can-you-go Barry White. The front cover art of the EP features Ingram quaintly sitting around a table stacked high with afternoon tea, but I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say, “Gurrlll did they serve you an extra helping of sassiness with dem cakes, because your voice is out of this world!”
