Introducing: Churches

Blimey, this is good. A debut single so instant and catchy, you feel like you need a bit of a sit-down after the first listen, just to take it all in. This is “Lies” by CHURCHES.

Not to be confused with the Californian rock outfit of the same name, CHURCHES are a Scottish threesome who literally only launched themselves at the start of this month. Judging by this first offering (and taking into account realistic release schedule lead times), however, it looks like next year’s pop obsession is pretty much sorted.

Opening lyric – “Faster, faster, you’ll go far” – sums things up nicely. And, as we here at Prime Planet value a good middle-8 when we hear one, the whole breakdown from 2:26 in the lead-up to the throbbing finale gets a firm thumbs akimbo from us.

When the song ends, you’ll be thanking the dude or dudette who invented the repeat button on your music player of choice. Because you’ll be putting it to good use.
