Introducing: Breen
Leeds-born and London-based Breen is aiming to bring back soul to the masses in a very big way, with his debut EP Say What You Want.
Even at the tentative age of 20 his voice is stunningly authentic and believable, elegantly ebbing and flowing passionate and heartfelt lyrics around charismatic and driving tracks. Breen is refreshingly varied and not scared to let his tracks breathe rather than drown them in synthesisers and novelties. Whilst ‘Say What You Want’ and ‘Through’ ooze stylistic RnB, ‘Kicking Back’ shows a disco-funk side of Breen reminiscent of Prince. The EP is a true example of his full potential, which appears limitless.
Never dull or giving the listener a second of respite, Breen hurls a barrage of head-bobbing and foot-stamping to the listener in an unrelenting bombardment of funk-disco glory. The guitar riff in ‘Twisted’ is possessed, unavoidable and unashamedly full-fat. Listening to Breen is like strutting through a jelly-filled marathon.
