Frankie Knuckles classics and remixes set for vinyl release
Frankie Knuckles’ timeless classics and remixes are poised for a vinyl revival courtesy of Defected’s revered House Masters compilation series.
Originally unveiled in 2015, the double-CD compilation is set to receive a fresh vinyl pressing in May, marking a tribute to the late Chicago house legend on the tenth anniversary of his passing. This release is particularly significant as it marks the first official return of the compilation since the original edition sold out, with the digital version unavailable due to licensing constraints.
Defected shared the journey behind the compilation’s inception, reminiscing on their collaboration with Frankie Knuckles and his manager Judy Weinstein in 2013. Tragically, Knuckles passed away unexpectedly the following year, leading to a temporary halt in the project.
‘Volume One’ of the compilation features iconic Frankie Knuckles tracks like It’s Hard Sometime and Too Many Fish, while ‘Volume Two’ boasts hits such as The Whistle Song and Workout, alongside remixes of classics by Candi Staton and First Choice.
This vinyl release forms part of Defected’s extensive tribute to Frankie Knuckles, honoring his enduring legacy and influence on the house music scene. Proceeds from the sales will be directed towards The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, further cementing Knuckles’ philanthropic impact.
