Narcissistic influencers bring more attention to how narcissism isn’t about attention
Psychological buzzwords like gaslight and narcissist are frequently used to describe situations and people we don’t like.
In a world that literally pays to be self-absorbed, social media has unintentionally but unsurprisingly become a platform for narcissism. Now, there’s a new hashtag that’s doesn’t recognise it’s own irony: #NarcTok.
It refers to a movement of narcissists who are newly self-realised, self-aware, self-congratulating. Which isn’t narcissistic at all.
Whether or not they have received a diagnosis, are undergoing treatment, or just suspect they might be, NarcTokers seem to be missing the narcissistic irony of generating a brand that validates narcissism.
