Designed by a woman, made for women, and built on a refusal to bow to the impossible standards of perfection that society has long used to diminish, control and define womanhood. These are the foundations on which Sonia Alves works.

SDCA STUDIO’s latest collection merges letting go with acceptance, beginning with what already exists to create what could be. Using minimal-waste pattern cutting, natural fabrics, deadstock materials, each choice is a deliberate step away from the extractive habits the fashion industry has spent decades normalising.

Rebirth is made entirely from fabric offcuts accumulated across SCDA’s three previous collections, saved from the toiling, sampling and production stages since the studio began. Every piece is designed from material that already existed, the artistry revealed through the process of working with what was there rather than from any predetermined blueprint. Evolution shapes this collection, and each new design carries a particular uniqueness that comes from that kind of creative constraint.

A deep crimson dress, its fabric pooling around the body in loose, unstructured folds, has the quality of something draped rather than constructed, shaped by the cloth’s own logic as much as by any pattern. It is sensual and entirely uncontrived. A long cream slip layered beneath an intricate black wire-like overlay, its lines crawling organically across the body like something grown rather than made, reads as both fragile and structural at once. A third look pairs a tightly worked black and white woven bralette with an asymmetric skirt and sheer ankle socks laced into flat sandals, the proportions deliberately unresolved in a way that rewards attention.

The collection’s deeper reference point is the centuries-old Portuguese tradition of rag rug making, in which strips of leftover textile are woven together to produce raw, striped patterns whose colour combinations cannot be fully planned. Alves found in that practice both a material logic and a human one, the women who made those rugs working by hand from what remained, producing something full of character precisely because it was never meant to be perfect. That spirit runs through every piece here.

What SDCA STUDIO offers, quietly and without fanfare, is a counterargument to the idea that fashion must begin with intention and end with a polished object.
