Death toll rises amidst Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon
Significant hostilities between Israel and Lebanon in the past few days has raised concerns about the escalation of conflict in the region.
An Israeli airstrike on Beirut killed a senior Hezbollah commander on Tuesday as cross-border rocket attacks by both sides increased fears of a full-fledged war.
On Tuesday, the UK Foreign Office warned that British nationals should leave the country, as it moves troops to Cyprus to help evacuation efforts.
It is estimated that around half a million people in Lebanon have now been displaced.
Israel justifies that the attacks are necessary to ensure the return of around 65,000 Israelis who had been displaced in the early days of the Gaza conflict, in anticipation of Hezbollah attacks on their homes near Lebanon’s border.~
Israel’s military spokesman has said it will do “whatever is necessary” to push Hezbollah from its northern border. It claims several top commanders have been killed following its extensive bombing campaign.
U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres posted on X that “Lebanon is at the brink.”
The situation in Gaza is a non-stop nightmare that threatens to take the entire region with it.
Lebanon is at the brink.
The people of Lebanon, the people of Israel and the people of the world cannot afford Lebanon to become another Gaza.

The UN Security Council will meet on Wednesday to discuss the situation.
