Sunak, general election and taxes
Media outlets began speculation around a general election as Rishi Sunak promised further tax cuts.
Sunak pledged that they would be the “single biggest difference between [the Conservatives] and the Labour Party in the next election”, which he said would likely happen in “the second half of the year”. Labour have suggested that Sunak is trying to postpone an election for as long as possible, out of fear of losing crucial seats.
Labour also accused Sunak of offering voters a “raw deal”, offering misleading tax cuts with one had and taking high taxes with the other.
While a full economic outline is yet to be announced, British media nevertheless ran headline stories on his pledge, speculating about the election.
