Out of Space is a new book that delves into the influence of towns and cities across the UK in club and rave culture.

On general sale July 7, the book “plots a course through the different UK towns and cities club culture has found a home. From Glasgow to Margate via Manchester, Sheffield and unlikely dance music meccas such as Coalville and Todmorden, this book maps where electronic music has thrived, and where it might be headed to next.”

Jim Ottewill’s thorough research and understanding makes Out of Space a unique evolution from other works that often focus on how cities became centres for UK club culture, instead exploring how and why electronic music thrived across the country, the evolution of venues old and new, and how our cities have been quintessentially unique.

It also explores questions of the future of electronic music, clubs and promoters in an increasingly online world, and Ottewill has spoken to a number of prominent figures in the scene including Norman Jay MBE, Josey Rebelle, OK Williams, Graeme Park and Ministry Of Sound’s Justin Berkmann.
